stormy weather

It's been unseasonably cold and rainy here, particularly any time that I try to go running.

If wishes were horses...

Oh man I want a pony so bad. One of these days when I'm rich but probably not that famous I'm going to have a house with a barn with horses inside. Write that one down. It's gonna happen.

Took this at Burro Days in Fairplay this Saturday. We were late coming down the mountain, and cranky and hungry so we missed the famous burro and llama races, but I got to snap a few of this sweet thing. She will be mine.

Summer summits

Saturday I climbed 3 14-ers, Lincoln, Democrat and Cameron with a bunch of friends. It was a bit crowded on the trail, but exceedingly beautiful, and really fun to be out with a good crew. We sang songs and told stories, and were pretty much the most fun people out there.

Champions!

drive by shooting

All taken driving across the south park to Alma Friday night. Totally accidental, but, I think, pretty beautiful. The sunset was phenomenal.

unexplainables

I have never seen a road sign like that. Additionally, what are these flowers doing in Colo.?

Re-vision

On my walk to school, depending on how I walk- I like to mix it up, there is a house covered in found art. Literally every surface of the house, yard and garage is covered in something, be it dominos or old chairs or discarded jewelry. Parts of it look a bit sad, I find the empty ballet slippers kind of poignant, but all in all it's pretty fantastic to look at.

I appreciate creative gardening, and I really like house art.

Where the wild things are

This is how my weekend started out.
Luckily, our animal encounters got a bit more civil. Here are mountain goats at the top of A-Basin. We hiked in from the other side. This is where I ski in the winter.

Then we went on a boat ride around lake Dillon. Made me miss living on a coast, and really miss sailing. There were some beautiful boats out when we were. I have a secret like ambition to live on a sail boat. I am already very good at tying knots and living in small spaces.

Then it was back to the campsite for a big dinner, and stories and tequila around the fire. Ahh summer.

Preview

I didn't take any pictures yesterday because I ended up working late at the newspaper and then Shawn and I went to see Harry Potter. It was ok, nice to look at but a bit light on the plot. But, the did show a preview for the movie that I am the most rediculously excited about. Oh man I don't even like movies that much especially kids movies(which you might not be able to tell from this) but I am counting the seconds till this comes out.

On the rocks

I went to Red Rocks the other night for Film on the Rock. Once a week-ish they play an old movie and have a band for the whopping price on $10. Monday, when we went, they played Office Space, and pretty much my favorite local musician, Gregory Alan Isakov, played. He is awesome, his band is fabulous (although apparently the fiddle player doesn't wear deoderant) and they play really good solid folk music. Serious love.

This is a heinous picture, but the people behind us were dancing and they made me really happy.

Gregory, despite his unfortunate pant-to-shoe ratio is pocket sized and adorable.

Sold out.

What I wish I did this summer

One from the play hole in BV where I sat and took pics and lamented my busted shoulder.

How amazing and beautiful and creative is this dictionary? I am wasting away my day looking at the pictures.

Driving home

Today we (and our legs) weren't up for much. So, we did a little sight seeing on the way home. We drove through Fairplay, the model for the town in South Park, where they were having a biker rally. The town, part of which still looks like an old mining town, is beautiful, but I was too scared of getting beat up by a biker chick to stop and take pics.

Then we went through Como, which is smaller and a bit further off the beaten path. I love the colors of this old house in Como. Makes me want to sit on the porch and look at the mountains.

On top of the world

Saturday we got up before dawn to hike Mt. Yale. Yale is a 14-er, one of the highest in Colo. Although it's on the easier end of the spectrum it was definitely a doozy.

The view from the top!
After we hung out, stretched our achy legs and managed to fit in two of my favorite dining establishments. We got milkshakes at K's Dairy Delite, which is a super old school ice cream stand and then we had dinner at Quincy's where they serve steak and only steak. literally. The only questions the waiter asks are "how do you want it cooked" and "do you want sour cream on your potato." We figured we deserved it.

Camp out

Friday we headed down to Buena Vista. I used to raft guide in BV and it's still one of my favorite areas. We found an excellent(free!) campsite right by the creek, set up shop and made dinner on the fire. Even with a little bit of rain the night was awesome. It included rainbows, kielbasa and lots of fire poking.

Sausage, corn, beans bread and cheese. We were seriously stocking up for our hike the next day.

fave

This is pretty much my favorite color ever.
We're off to the mountains for the weekend to try to conquer a 14-er and eat a lot of steak and drink milkshakes along the way(more on this later I promise).

buddhists love bikes, and yard sales

Katie, my roommate, and I went exploring through the Naropa campus. Naropa is a Buddhist university. While their academic credit may be debatable they have a sweet bike sharing program.
